The Kindle edition had some formatting errors with the straight right punch appearing in the description of the left hook. Could be confusing for the beginner.

Fighting Fit is Doug Werner best easy to follow book that I know of. It is a re-done of his earlier book Boxer’s Start-Up: A Beginner’s Guide to Boxing ,but more better photos and words. Gives more information and easy to follow photos of skills. Best to read and look at both book,Boxer’s Start-Up: A Beginner’s Guide to Boxing and Fighting Fit. You might not understand this book with out the other if you never read Boxer’s Start Up?

I liked this book but thought if could have had more drills for boxing and left out the chapter on strength training. Over all worth $10.

a wonderful beginers guide to the sport of boxing . infact beginers and intermidiates would benifit from owning this book. the only thing that prevents me giveing this book five stars is that this book is a more expanded version of the authors first book (boxers start up) and this book contains a lot of pictures

This book will supplement the Title Boxing DVD Series. Very informative. Great for the beginner or anyone thinking about getting into boxing for fitness or sport.

I really enjoyed this book. It covered everything from basic stance, how to properly wrap your hands, types of gloves/headgear to buy, all the way to how to throw punches and combinations. It really helped me get started and there was a picture just about every two pages.

You can only learn so much from a book but this is a good start and has some good tips for even the more experienced fighter. The best way to learn is from a good trainer(verify their credentials). But you can learn a ton as a beginner from this book but it will only be mastered with guidance from a “qualified” trainer (I stress this because there are dozens of wannabe trainer for every real one so be careful who you choose. None will be perfect but make sure they use safe and effective techniques for training. This book should help you in determining that as well)

I encourage anyone in training to read everything and listen to everyone and then sort it out and use what fits you the best. This is a good book for a starter and re enforces “You are what you eat”, and “you will be what you train as” rule.

For more than 60 years I have been involved in numerous combat sports and martial arts (Judo, Jujitsu, Karate-Do, Kickboxing, Wrestling, Combatives, and Boxing) and I have read countless books on these topics. I recently purchased this interesting and informative 224 page soft cover book (Fighting Fit: Boxing, workouts, techniques and sparring by Doug Werner and Alan Lackica) from Amazon for a bargain price.
This is an excellent book to read and study to complement hands-on instruction from a boxing coach. This volume covers all the basic punches, defenses, footwork, bag drills, partner drills and sparring drills involved in the sport of boxing. There are 450 black and white photographs showing the techniques and drills.
This easy to read book is organized into two parts. Part one covers the boxing basics and review. The second part explains and shows in detail the various punches, foot work and defenses. There are numerous bag drills and sparring drills also covered in the text. I found the numerous drills excellent as this kind of essential material is seldom covered in most boxing books.
If you are seeking an excellent basic guide to boxing techniques and tactics you should check out this book.
Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: Training alone in Combatives and self-defense)
