I have tried so many brands and these are the only brand that delivers ALL of the following-
-the right amount of cold for long enough
    -freeze fast enough
    -are comfortable and flexible enough
    -lightweight enough
-the right size and shape for the job (this brand has so many size options that are perfect for different areas)

These work just right for my migraines and swollen joints.

I have to put it in a pillow case because placing it directly in the skin is too much. You want a thin, dry layer of soft fabric between the ice cold contents and your skin. Anything wet or plastic will conduct the cold too much to external skin and make it feel like too much cold but a thin layer of soft, dry fabric will protect your skin while allowing the cold to sink deep into your tissues.

Durability- it is true that these won’t last forever. However, the other brands with thicker exterior are useless to me, they are way too heavy and inflexible to wrap around joints or my forehead and they impede the amount of cold you get into the deeper tissues which makes those kinds wholly ineffective for me. This brand is much more flexible, effective and useful but the down side is that they will break down eventually. I get at least a hundred uses out of them though. They get squished and squeezed and re-frozen and yeah, eventually the lining breaks. It’s non-toxic filling. It’s never been that big of a deal for me. These are also more affordable than most other kinds so I just have a few that I keep on hand so when one breaks, (which is super rare considering I use things almost every day and I lose one about once a year) it’s just not a big deal for me. I prefer having a few anyway so I never have to worry about running out of already frozen ones during a bad migraine.

I literally couldn’t cope without these and I hope they keep selling them. I love all the different size options. Take care of it, don’t be super rough with it and it will last you quite a long time.

My husband purchased this ice pack for me after I had my shoulder surgery. It was perfect very flexible, stayed cold for a long period of time and it just molded to what I needed.

2nd UPDATE: I changed my rating back to 4 stars because I reached out to the manufacturer directly, and they promptly sent me a new gel pack.
These packs are a bit hard and not flexible directly out of the freezer, but after a few minutes they are perfect and the cold lasts.

UPDATE: I changed my rating to one star because this second one I purchased is not the same as the first one I did. It has FAR too much air and less gel in it making it practically useless. It stays cold for a very short time. I don’t know if I just received a fluke, or if this is how they are making the ice packs now, but either way I’m very disappointed. I would return it if I could but I’m outside of the return window.

This is the second one of these that I have purchased. I love that I can wrap it around the back of my neck and top of my head when my migraines hit.
I don’t know whose brilliant idea it was in packaging at Amazon to put stickers directly onto this gel pack. After 3 treatments of dawn powerwash spray and scraping I managed to get the 2 stickers off, but there is no way the residue from one of them is coming off. Disappointing.

This is a great gel pack for cold. It gets VERY cold (needs cloth between it and your skin for the first 10 minutes) and it stays cold for at least 20 minutes. Because it gets so cold and stays cold, it is much more effective than other types of cold packs. Most importantly, it remains flexible when frozen. It is longer than most long and narrow packs, and this makes it more versatile/effective when wrapping a shoulder or laying it along the spine.

I do not use plastic gels packs as hot packs, so I canʻt comment on how this performs for heat. Plastic gel packs are much more likely to rupture when heated, they get hot spots and can easily burn you. All plastics are fat soluble (they are made from oil/petroleum) and because of this when you heat them then lay them on your skin, plastic molecules leach out of the pack and into your skin, ultimately entering your blood stream. Since the human body did not evolve to consume plastic (we donʻt have the necessary enzymes), all of these plastics we are exposed to in the modern world are essentially toxins and are poisonous. Studies show that Americans pee out immense amounts of plastic molecules every day, and some of these compounds have been found to promote disease. A gel pack that is frozen is more inert and much less likely to leach out plastic molecules. If you want a hot pack, chose a clay bead or a grain bag style hot pack, your body will thank you.

These ice packs are absolutely stunning! I have 2 broken ankles (compound fractures) and they are very painful. I tried several other well-known ice packs and these far out perform them. In fact, they out perform any ice pack I have ever tried. When they come out of the freezer you can feel that they seem to just exude exceptional coldness. I wrap them around my ankles immediately and wrap them with ace bandages to keep them on and keep the cold in. They are so cold that I don’t think I could use them against my bare skin – I wear compression socks which actually help in 2 ways – they also give the ace bandages something to grip so they stay put. The really amazing part is how long these ice packs stay cold. Most would warm up enough to be useless after about 20 minutes. Of course, they all seemed inadequate compared to these. After at least an hour and a half these are still plenty cold! Compared to these ice packs from Accurate Manufacturing other ice packs seem like heating pads. I use them at least once a day and they are a tremendous help managing the pain. Because the cold penetrates so deeply into my ankles and the relief lasts so long, I can cut down on my pain meds. Now I am going to search to see if Accurate Manufacturing makes larger ice packs that will work for headaches when I have chemo! I don’t know what is in these ice packs or what makes them work so well, but many, many thanks to the person that designed them. Truly superior.
